Scythe SY1225SL12M Review by Pushkin

I use this fan as my CPU fan on a Kingwin Xt-1264 cooler. With the motherboard fan management it has to work at 800 RPM to cool an 125W AMD processor to 50 C. While running at the maximum speed of 1350 RPM you might hear some slight air rushing, but it is a pleasant, unintrusive sound. There is no bearing noise, even when the fan is running at lower RPM (some fluid bearing fans have problem with this, but since this is a sleeve fan, it stays quiet at lower RPM too).

The fan does generate more noise if you mount it horizontally, so I would not recommend that.

At 800 RPM it is silent.

I have a Silverstone TJ09-B computer case. It has two openings for fans along the top of the case, as well as one in the standard area in the rear, and two fans in various places inside the case. So I originally purchased 5 cheap fans to fill in all those spots, and the computer was very loud. I recently purchased 3 of these Scythe fans to replace the two fans on the top, and the one in the rear, and it's amazing how quiet the computer is. I keep looking over at it thinking that something is wrong! And, on top of how quiet they are, they move more air than the cheap ones I had before. I plan on purchasing 2 more to replace the other fans.

Bottom line, these fans are excellent, and I will be buying these for my computers from now on.

Setup two of these on my Hyper 212 + in push/pull config and getting 74 degrees @ 4.8ghz under full load on an i5-2500k. Really dropped my temps down. Idle temps are around 24 degrees.

I have this for my goldfish kettle pond. It is strong and very quiet. It works well but you need to get the filter attachment (which i mentioned in another review does not snap on very well). So if you need a lot of filtering i would buy the filter box. i also bought the fountain attachments which worked well, but there are no directions with it. Eventually i figured it out. Its a good pump, my fish are alive and healthy.

I bought the Beckett Versa Gold Series model number G535AG20 535 GPH Submersible Pump to replace a similar Versa pump that had been running for at least several years before giving up the ghost (this previous pump was installed by the prior owner of our house). Installed in Dec 2010, in a small outdoor pond. The pump is connected to an in-line UV filter to keep the algae away. Temperatures here in La Jolla never go below freezing, so we run it on a timer that turns the pump on for 8 hours/day, 24/7 year round. It seized up a couple days ago. I pulled it out of the pond and could see no visible damage. I removed the weed guard on the thing and the propeller seemed fine, with no debris or other obstructions. I could spin it with my finger just fine. When I plug it in, the motor hums but it doesn't spin. I wish this thing would last more than a year...

When I originally bought two of these cases, this is what the description said:

When I look at the description now, the addition of 'TOUCH' has been taken out, and I'm not surprised. I tried to fit my Touch into this, I really did. It's patently obvious this was not meant for the Touch. I would have thought the seller would have contacted me regarding the error in the fit, but I've heard nothing. I'm going to put in a refund request. The case is too short, it has a plastic smell, and my Touch is too thick to fit into this. All in all, I'm not impressed.
